Leading up to the release of Deadpool 2, Josh Brolin just proved how ripped he got to play Cable in the new film, which hits theaters this month.
Josh Brolin on Playing Thanos, Cable, and Which Villain Would Win in a Fight
The 50-year-old actor reposted an Instagram from Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld on his account last night, which shows his chiseled physique next to a comic book illustration of his bulked-up character Cable. And aside from a few obvious comic book features, Brolin looks arguably more in shape than his Deadpool part.

No. That‚Äôs not true. I‚Äôm likely to never do that. It looks like so much hard work. But I‚Äôd like to think I would. Or maybe one of my kids can and I can watch. ‚ÄúThe mighty Brolin, AKA The Chisel, went all in on practical FX for Deadpool 2 and endured all that pain for gains,‚ÄĚ Liefeld wrote in his caption. He continued to give a shout-out to Brolin‚Äôs trainer, Justin Lovato, and called Brolin‚Äôs gains an ‚Äúamazeballs transformation.‚ÄĚ
Change Your Reps, Build Muscle Faster
He wasn‚Äôt the only one who thought so either. Commenters sounded off on the side-by-side comparison. ‚ÄúJACKED,‚ÄĚ one wrote, while another asked the important lifting questions we all want to know:
‚ÄúImpressive! How much were you deadlifting, Josh? I‚Äôm getting older and I‚Äôm getting more and more concerned about hernias, etc.‚ÄĚ
Brolin responded and said to skip the heavy weights. ‚ÄúDon‚Äôt lift heavy,‚ÄĚ he wrote. ‚ÄúI slowly worked up and never ended up lifting really heavy. Slower reps and a squeeze.‚ÄĚ

It’s smart advice and shows that, despite Brolin’s hilarious mock-lifting posts on social media, he’s clearly dedicated when it comes to getting in shape for the role.
‚ÄúJosh came ready to put in the work,‚ÄĚ his trainer told Men‚Äôs Journal last year. ‚ÄúFor six weeks straight we were getting into the gym for at least three hours a day.‚ÄĚ
If you want to get jacked like Brolin, you can try his workout‚ÄĒif you can get past the warm-up.
