How To Make A Statement And Show Your Personality Through Clothes

Fashion has significantly evolved over the years, more so than most people had expected. Now, we live in a time where there are countless different styles, which is a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. Trying to find your own style can often be challenging, and it is not as easy as it sounds.

They say clothes make the man (or woman), but it is actually the other way around; you make the clothes. The key is in finding your own style that would express your personality and make a statement. Here is how you can do that.

Understand the Different Styles

There isn’t exactly a manual for how to dress, and there never will be. You can wear whatever you want and no one could stop you. Yet, there are some rules –– or rather guidelines –– to dressing that make all the difference in the world. And before you can break the rules, you first have to learn them.

After that, you can choose to ignore them as you want. This starts with understanding the different available styles out there: classic, bold, vintage fashion, casual, street style, bohemian, chic fashion, artsy, and eclectic. These are just some examples; there are many more styles out there, and you need to find one and make it your own.

Learn Color Pairings

Again, there isn’t a rule that you can’t mix colors, but there are some that cause what stylists label ‘color clash,’ meaning they don’t really work together and the whole outfit looks off. For instance, pairing neon green and hot pink is an assault on the eyes and they look awful together. That is a pairing that you should avoid.

That being said, these are guidelines on which colors work best with each other. Be careful and avoid misconceptions about color pairings because there are many. Some claim, for example, that black and brown don’t go together, but that is hardly true. They are actually one of the most elegant pairings out there.

Experiment

Now that you know the rules of the game, it is time to experiment. Find a style that you feel expresses you and works best with your personality, and try it out.

Maybe you like vintage items like vinyl records and classic books and films. In that case, incorporating vintage shirts with a classic design can be your best option. You can have that vintage look that you like and it would look great, not just because the design is aesthetically pleasing, but more importantly because it expresses your personality, and that matters the most in an outfit.

Keep trying out different styles until you find the ones that suit you best. You don’t even have to settle on a limited number. You might prefer elegant chic for a night out at a bar, but you would go to work in a semi-formal style in a startup where you can go wearing slacks and sneakers. It is all about your personal preferences.

Ignore People’s Opinions

Unless your friends and coworkers work as fashion critics, ignore what they have to say about your style. Even if they were critics, take their opinions with a grain of salt. If you want to make a statement through your clothes, you can’t be bothered by what people have to say about your choices.

The style you choose expresses you, and that is the only opinion that matters. Be bold and dress however you like, regardless of what anyone else thinks. Chances are, no matter how you dress, someone won’t like it. So, you might as well do it for yourself and forget about all the unnecessary feedback from others.

Quality Is Everything

Last but not least, when it comes to clothing, it is all about quality. You want to show your personality through your fashion style and make a statement, so you can’t do that wearing rags.

Contrary to popular belief, quality doesn’t necessarily mean wearing expensive brands only. It doesn’t matter where you get your clothes from, even if it is a street vendor. As long as they are made of high-quality materials and look good, go for it. Nobody cares where you got the outfit from but rather how good it looks on you.

The most important thing when it comes to your clothing choices is being comfortable. You have to be comfortable in the clothes you’re wearing, and enjoy yourself. Don’t ever dress for anyone but yourself, and always listen to your inner voice. If it tells you to wear a neon onesie to go running, then so be it, as long as it is practical and comfy enough for you to pull it off.
